Date Service
Sun 12th October 2003 The Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat launched at 11:07 on Sunday 12th of October in severe weather conditions to a sailing yacht with two male occupants in difficulty and dragging its anchor outside the Bembridge Harbour entrance. The casualty in the very rough sea and force seven winds was reported as being pushed on to the lee shore by the high waves and heavy surf.
Sat 2nd August 2003 The ILB was launched on service during the annual Bembridge Lifeboat Regatta to aid a 48ft Fairline motor cruiser "Ambitious" which had hit Bembridge Ledge ripping out her propellors and shafts, and starting to sink. Asalvage pump was quickly taken out in the inshore lifeboat, and several of the lifeboat crew went into action to pump out the vessel, plug the leaks and get the vessel to the boatyard for slipping. The local fishing vessel "Sea Eagle" was fortunately also on scene, and towed the vessel into harbour whilst the lifeboat crew were aboard dealing with the leaks. The vessel was then pulled out of the water at the local boatyard. The rescue took place right in front of the crowds at the Regatta.
Sat 21st June 2003 The first incident occurred at 2145 hrs when red flares were sighted off Bembridge Ledge and a Hobie sailing catamaran was sighted capsized a short distance off the rocks. The vessel had apparently suffered water ingress in one hull before pitch-poling and throwing the single occupant into the water. Being unable to right the vessel on his own, he fired flares for assistance, and the inshore lifeboat was quickly on the scene. The catamaran was then righted and brought ashore, with the crewman put in accommodation for the night before sailing back to the mainland on Sunday.

The second incident took place at 2245hrs when the 31ft Mitchell angling boat "Eve 11" reported to coastguards that she had gearbox failure near West Princessa Buoy. The inshore lifeboat launched and towed the vessel back to the safety of the lifeboat moorings, where the two crewmen were landed and taken to the ferry to make their way home to Gosport. The disabled vessel was towed back to Gosport on Sunday morning.
Fri 18th April 2003 Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat was launched twice on Good Friday to the assistance of the 8 metre yacht "Isobel May", which had run aground outside Bembridge Harbour on a falling tide. The vessel was hard aground and had to wait until the rising tide later in the evening to refloat, but as conditions had worsened, the ILB was launched again to assist the yacht at 2115 hours. The vessel was then assisted into Bembridge Harbour and berthed safely alongside.

The yacht was from Hamble, and had three people aboard.
Sat 26th March 2003 Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat was launched on Saturday afternoon following a report that a windsurfer was in difficulties off Culver Cliff. The ILB proceeded to the scene as the windsurfer managed to get ashore under the cliffs, and gave assistance to return the casualty to Yaverland.
