Bembridge Lifeboat Regatta 1999

The Relief Lifeboat, "Voluntary Worker" took part in the annual Bembridge Lifeboat Regatta on Sunday the 15rd August 1999 along with the Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat "Criddy and Tom" and the Coastguard Air-Sea Rescue Helicopter. This year August has been rather wet, but the rain held off the crowd saw a fine display of Air-sea rescue techniques, and the Historic Lifeboat "Queen Victoria".

The "Voluntary Worker" 47-031 speeds to the aid of ...
.. a local fishing boat "on fire".
As the crew clear up...
... the ILB "rescues" as yachtsman "in trouble".
A person in the water is picked up...
... by the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter "India Juliet"...
... and is transferred to the All Weather Lifeboat.
The crew make sure everyone is safely on-board.

The regular Bembridge Lifeboat "Max Aitken III" is away at present while the station is being painted inside, and work is being carried out on the concrete slipway. A Tyne Class Lifeboat, from the relief fleet, that can stay afloat is presently on station.
