Bembridge Lifeboat Regatta 2003

This Year's Bembridge Lifeboat Regatta was on Saturday 2nd August 2003 at Lane End.

Again a bumber entry for the raft race with some very inventive and colourful entries, and the Motor Boat race had more entries as well.

There was live entertainment in the evening from the local band "The Mechanix" featuring the full line up, a rare event these days. Fireworks rounded off the day again this year. The Coastguard Helicopter attended again this year, after a busy morning with two "shouts". The Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat had a real incident to attend during the morning when a Motor Cruiser holed itself by hitting Bembridge Ledge. The two Bembridge lifeboats put on a grand display of rescue techniques assisted by local fishing boat "Snowman". The restored ex-Bembridge Lifeboat "Queen Victoria" was in attendance.

The line-up for
the motor boat race ...
... Then after a brief pause for a real "Shout" ...
... the rafts are launched.
A fine show again this year.
The Crab & Lobster entered a submarine ...
... some were "Mad" to enter.
I don't think thats what's meant by a Gin Palace :)
The large crowd were entertained by ...
... a firefighting display and ...
... an air-sea rescue display ...
... by the Coastguard helicopter...
... and both Lifeboats.
The prizes were awarded ...
... to the "Cheeky Girls" - among others
... by retiring Coxwain Martin Woodwood
The evening crowd were ...
... fed by members of the Guild, ...
... entertained by
... The Mechanix ...
... supporting the RNLI.
